Gluten Free Foods
My wife has celiac disease and it is possible that my baby girl does too (we’re playing it safe for now). This means that they must eat only gluten free foods. Sure, they feel better on a gluten free diet, but there are three big problems…
Almost all gluten free food is either completely unprocessed (raw meat, vegetables, fruit, etc that takes a lot of time and effort to make into a meal), expensive, or disgusting. We basically had to pick between making everything from scratch, spending 5x the amount of money for normal food, or eating gross food.
For example, some of the gluten free bread out there is, wow, really bad. I can’t even believe they are allowed to sell it. It is dry and crumbles when you eat it. It tastes a lot like cardboard. I thought my only other options were buying the small $7 frozen loaf at Whole Foods (that actually is pretty decent bread) or buying a bunch of expensive gluten free flours and making bread from scratch.
The situation is similar for most gluten free desserts and gluten free breakfast items. They both have a lot of good tasting kinds of foods with gluten. The desserts situation is actually a little worse than breakfast because almost every dessert you can think of has wheat in it due to a crust.
I didn’t want to spend hours each day cooking. I didn’t want to spend a fortune feeding my family. And I didn’t want us to eat crappy food. I thought there had to be a better way, so I searched and searched and I tested and tested different gluten free products.
Over the last few years I have found lots of different ways to get yummy, not too expensive, and not hard to make gluten free food. I didn’t realize how vast my knowledge was until a co-worker lamented about the fact that they just discovered her 8 year old was a celiac. I then proceeded to overwhelm her with about 100 different ways that I get tasty gluten free foods into my family’s bellies.
I thought that there were probably a ton of other people out there who could use the same knowledge I gave her. So, I decided to make a website about the gluten free diet and here you are. Most gluten free websites tackle the diet issue by posting a ton of different recipes that are often complex and time consuming. That is not within the scope of this website. I will only post recipes if they are quick and easy. However, for the most part, I will not be giving you recipes unless there is a shortcut somewhere that I’ve found.
I’m always learning and looking for great ideas and deals out there. New ones pop up all the time. So, please let me know if you have found something that tastes great and/or is a great deal.
Enjoy!
